Even stars can fall...

They say that how higher you rise, the harder you'll fall. And never had someone fallen this hard.
When he entered this industry he had been nothing more then a little boy with a cute smile and a lot of luck. The Ya-Ya-yah show had been his entering ticket to Johnny's Entertainment. One he had eagerly accepted. He wanted to become famous. He wanted his name to be remembered. He wanted to make his mother meet the KinKi Kids, because she desired it so much. He had hopes and dreams, and Johnny's was the place to make them come true.
When he was 13 years old, he got a hold of his first drama role. At the time it was just a special. And for him it was special indeed, because a year later the drama continued as a full series in which he was casted again. What he had dreamed off happened, people started noticing him. He loved the acting, the cast and the drama itself. It was the drama that gave him the image of the 'cool kid', an image that would had haunt him ever since.
It was also the drama in which he found his first love. And his first heart break. When he confessed to her, slightly shaking of the nerves and adrenaline that ran trough his veins, she had said she was too young for a 'commitment' and that she needed to built up her career first. She was very sorry, and appreciated his friendship, but it wouldn't work out. A choice of words that wasn't usual for a girl of her age, but now thinking back about those words he could laugh about it. Because it was just so like her to be like that.
The year 2007 was the year in which his real musical career started. Hey!Say!7 was formed, and they released a single. To everyones surprise, the group with an average age of only 14.8 topped the Oricon Charts and set a record with that, being the youngest male group ever to do that. Even after such a long time, pride swells up in his heart, thinking back about it.
It was also the year of Hey!Say!JUMP. Hey!Say!7 might have started it, but JUMP was the cherry, or strawberry as he preferred, on top of his cream. It was a proper debut, and once again he found the spotlight. Now determined never to let go of it again.
He loved the camera, and it was obvious the camera loved him too. He acted silly, pulled weird faces and cracked jokes whenever he could. This brought him many fans, because it was hard to resist the fresh smile of the boy.
But Johnny saw more potential in the boy than just a giddy smile, and slowly but sure the 'cool kid' came back. Upgraded version. The 'sexy cool kid'.
Little did he know that this was what would bring his biggest success, and his biggest downfall.
When he was 16/17 years old, JUMP practically revolved around him. He was given solo pages in magazines, were else others had to share their space. He was loved among senpai's and admired among kouhais. Not only because of his talent but also his hard work. Next to having JUMP activities, he also was a member of the young group NYC Boys, together with fellow JUMP member Chinen Yuri, Nakayama Yuma and the boys of B.I. Shadow, and to make it even more admirable he also still went to school even though his busy schedule.
He was called the next Kimura Takuya, and the name Yamada Ryosuke was starting to become a young phenomenon in Japan, and even stretched out to other Asian countries such as China and South Korea. It all happened in the blink of an eye, but he was sure to make sure he wouldn't become the next one day fly. He would be eternal.
He was becoming a very happy young man, but in the process of his own happiness he slowly started forgetting about the happiness of those around him.
His 18th was the year he peeked the most. He was the youngest in Johnny's Jimusho to release a solo single, and with 3 drama's in the year 2011, he could officially claim he was the most successful member of the group that was still struggling with their place in the Oricon Charts. It wasn't like JUMP was unpopular. Singles still reached the number one spot, but usually disappeared from the charts a few weeks after. It frustrated him that even though all his successes, his hard word and effort the group still wasn't able to regain a status even close to the ones of his senpai groups.
In the JUMP dressing room one could hear him brag about his solo single that lasted on number one of almost 8 weeks, while the latest group single barely could stay in the charts for 4 weeks before disappearing of the screen.
It wouldn't have been much of a problem it the mockery of his own group had stayed between the walls of the Jimusho, the 9 other members could take on fairly a lot and were able to stand up for themselves very well, but he also started making seemingly 'funny' remarks in variety shows. The place where they had to smile at what their fellow member said, just had to shrug it off, like it was nothing. But it was more than just nothing, and as time passed the 9 other boys started to distance themselves from the little super star.
Later on, this was the thing he probably regretted to most out of everything he had ever done.
He discovered clubbing when he was 19 years old. Even more then clubbing, he discovered the female race and he enjoyed it at the fullest, not fully aware of the risks it could have for him and his group.
He made sure he was never spotted with an alcoholic drink, but the fact he spent more time in clubs than at home was enough for the rest of the world to assume things.
Just when Johnny thought Tokyo Sports was finally done with gossiping about JE (this due the fact Akanishi seemingly has seen the light and reduced his visits to club by a little over 80%), the young Yamada Ryosuke started to become a new fresh piece of meat for the gossip paper, and his pictures were nice eye catchers on the front page with alarming headlines such as, "Another Johnny's star consumed by partying?" and "Will this be the end of a illustrious but young career?"
As a group they were responsible for each other and their actions, thus JUMP got its first warning. This occasion was the provocation for the first fight within the group.
Out of all people it was Chinen who opened his mouth. Letting out what he thought about where his friend was heading, taking the rest of the group with him if it would go wrong.
"I don't know what you are doing, and why you are doing it, but I refuse to be a part of it. You are not the only one who worked hard to be where we are now. We all did."
The older one had laughed, and shrugged it off, saying that JUMP would have never become what they were in this day and age without him. The answer he had gotten was cold and though he didn't wanted to accept it at the time, it had been a stab in his heart.
"You're right. Without you we might have been a lot less popular, but we'd also be a lot happier and closer with each other. You might not have realized it already, but your behavior is tearing us all apart. I wish you good luck with whatever you're going to do from now on, Yamada-san."
With those words Chinen had left.
Afterwards this event was probably the real breakdown. One Chinen had blamed himself for, for over a long time.
He could do whatever he wanted? Okay. That could be settled. Clubbing now also started to involve drinking, and drinking started to cause a lot of reckless behavior. Where Yamada in the past had made sure his little adventures with females were limited to hotel rooms, and other closed area's, now kissing on the dance floor became a regular. Of course pictures were made, and spread all over the place.
Luckily the pictures weren't very clear most of the time, and Johnny's and Associates refused to admit it was indeed Yamada Ryosuke on those pictures.
But unfortunately, the 2nd of May, a week before Yamada's 20th birthday a clear picture got published of the boy standing in front of a popular club. With a beer in his hand, one arm lazily hanging over the rank shoulders of a pretty girl and a cigarette in his mouth, the young idol had drawn his own fate. He was now the living proof even starts could fall.
He got suspended for a year. After the year was due, Johnny's would look at his behavior to see if he was able to return the group activities. Chances were low, but not reduced to zero. If he'd were to be able to get his old self back together, he slowly could build up his career again. Starting with nothing, just as he had done 9 years before.
Any other human being would have stopped there. Showed remorse for what he had done, and begged the Gods for a second chance to built everything up again. However, not this human being. Instead of stopping with what he did he doubled it.
Angry. Angry on the world for not letting him be. Angry on Johnny's Entertainment for not over-looking this, he was Yamada Ryosuke after all! Angry on his fellow JUMP member for not saving his ass. But most of all angry on himself, for letting it go this far.
The last mentioned only occurred when he was sober enough to think straight.
The rest of the time he was just doing whatever he pleased. Not minding about what papers wrote about him or even what people said about him. He wasn't a star anymore, but yet he gained lots of attention. Maybe even more than when he still was the prosperous teenage super star of Johnny's Entertainment.
Maybe that was his drive. The attention. Those who are used to having a certain amount of attention, start to crave for more. And when the positive kind of attention doesn't fulfill these needs, other forms of attention are being searched for. And usually found in doing what was not supposed to be done.
But as time passed by, even the negative attention faltered away. Other things became more interesting than a second handed little boy who had ruined his own future, not thinking about the consequences.
Also, unexpectedly JUMP became more popular than ever, and with the debut of 2 new groups (one of them was Boys Out Off The Shadow, B.O.O.T.S. for short, consisting off the 4 former B.I. Shadow members, the other Mis Snow Man) the papers had happier things to write about. And where the country was having an rising economy again, happier news was better welcomed than the bad.
Now he completely was separated from everything his life and dreams had been about when he was still young and hopeful, the boy wasn't even a whim of the giddy personality he used to be. He wasted his money on partying, just so he didn't have to be sober anymore and face the reality that once needed to dawn upon him. From shining star he had fallen back to nothing more or less than dust.
Right now he was 21 years old. His eyelids where heavy and in the far away distance he heart someone shouting out his name.
"Yama-chan? Yama-chan? Can you hear me? God. Yuto, call an ambulance, he's not answering!"
'Yama-chan?' he thought vaguely, 'no one called me Yama-chan since I was 18 years old. Who are you? Why are you helping me?'
There was another voice, a little farther away then the one that kept saying his name. It gave orders to come as quick as possible. No he didn't know how bad the situation was, but he wasn't answering and his breathing was very straggling. A place name and a 'thank you' were given, and now also the second voice came closer.
"It's okay Chii, we found him on time. The ambulance is gonna be here soon. Everything is going to be alright. Ne, Yama-chan?"
This 'Chii' person sobbed. Little husky sobs, as a hand ran trough his hair. The touch was soft, but comforting and a warm familiar feeling reached him. In his heart mind and soul.
The siren of the ambulance disturbed the peaceful feelings and he heard Chinen asking of he was going to be okay, and if he and Yuto could come along because they didn't want the other boy to be alone in this state. When the ambulance staff told them it was best not to come and that the family would be called as soon as they arrived in the hospital he heard one last thing before his mind went black.
"BUT JUMP IS FAMILY, AND YAMA-CHAN ALWAYS WILL BE A PART OF JUMP!"
Eppiloque
"I heard Yamada-kun is coming back as a Junior."
"Me too. I wonder if it's true."
"He'd better not. After that lame suicide attempt I don't want to see his face anymore! JUMP is better of without him anyway."
Yamada felt his heart drop at the statement he heard when he passed by a shop where young school girls were discussing the newest rumors in the entertainment world. He nearly wanted to turn around, abandoning his destination when he heard a small voice.
"How can you say that Akiko-chan? Didn't you love Yamada-kun really a lot? Because I know I still do, and I miss him. People deserve a second chance, so so does he."
Quickly he wiped away the tear that was rolling over his cheek, and a small smile lingered upon his lips. Today he would visit Johnny's Entertainment again for the first time in a year. He would be discussing he possibilities of a new contract either as a solo artist or as the long awaited 10th member of Hey!Say!JUMP.
Just as when he started 11 years ago he had high hopes and dreams for the future. Once again he was just a boy with a cute smile and a lot of luck, eager to accept this entering ticket.
This story was supposed to be short and light. But I deepened out the plot and it ended up like this. It's kinda sad to say because it's quite a depressing story, but I think this is my best story thus far.
I have no idea where this came from, but I guess it's just my mood right now. Poor Yamada was my victim, simply because he fitted the story best I suppose. I'm glad I'm just a fiction writer, because if I were to be a fortune teller it would be pretty darn depressive right? I'm sorry. Lameness.
Anyway. I hope you guys liked it and let's just ope nothing like this will ever occur in JUMP~

on 2010-01-12 11:29 pm (UTC)I was thinking of using Yabu, but he just seem to fit the profile, while Yamada strangely does.
I'm sure Johnny's idols have learned from their mistakes. And that everything and everyone stays like they are now ^^

It's funny but I think you're quite right about Chinen. It's my opinion but Chinen seems to be the kind of person who wouldn't accept this attitude~
(just a correction in the part about the 2nd of may, you wrote "starts" instead of "stars" ^^)
And you can be proud of you... I cried... Okay, only ONE tear but STILL !!! ><"
I'm always thinking about the bad things that could happen to them (not only Jump but all stars in general~) And this makes me kind of sad. Public opinion, success and all can really ruin a life =/ I just hope Jump will be spared.
Oh and I always write my comment while I'm reading your fics. And I just had a emotional elevator because of you xD I started quite happy and now completely sad and wondering about stars' possible falling x) (but I'll listen to some HSJ song and it'll be OK xD)

on 2010-01-13 12:22 am (UTC)Yeah, Chinen seems the type who keeps his mouth shut 'till he has enough of it. I know people think of his has Yamada's petdog or something, but I think Chinen is very well aware of what he wants and thinks. And he's not afraid to show it. At least, that is how I like to see Chii ^^
Ah thanks XDD
Aww, I'm sorry D: Surprisingly, you're the only XD While usually, I get quite a few comments of those of cried in fics that I wrote XD
Yeah me too. I'm always afraid that JUMP will end up just like NEWS. Maybe because they're the same kind of group. Quite big, with the 'cute' image. No one will think something bad happens with JUMP, but that's what making me so scared for when it does ;-;
Aww, I'm sorry xD I hope JUMP songs helped you over it though D:

This reminds me of the Kusano/Uchi situation. Except Uchi is back and Kusano is not. TT-TT Kusannnoooooo come back!!! TT~TT

on 2010-02-02 07:03 am (UTC)Yeah, TegoMassu schedule's always fit in NEWS. Not the other way around.
Hmm, yeah because somewhere the situation is similar.
Me too. He was indeed very talented and his interactions with the others was great! Gotha love him. Last thing I saw from him he had Jin's look though. (Before Jin did XD) But yeah, I don't think he will re-join NEWS. But he would make a fine solo artist.
