[Fanfic] Heaven on Earth? [1/?]
Title: Heaven on Earth?
Characters: Yabu Kouta, Yoshiro Hikari (main). Koyama Keiichiro, Inoo Kei, Yaotome Hikaru, Takada Haru (
ainoro ) (semi-big roles). Pretty much every person in Johnny's entertainment.
Rating: PG for language
Summary: When Hikari starts working at Johnny's Entertainment, Japan's and maybe even the world's biggest fashion and entertainment magazine, she looks forward to hearing about the gossips and drama concerning celebrities. However, getting dragged into the world of these drama's... She notices her own life is starting to unfold like one too.
It was like in a movie.
Fashion models prancing around like they owned the world, photographers passing by, deeply in thoughts about the new shoots, interviewers who took slow and steady steps, muttering to themselves how to correctly interpret the words of those they had interviewed. It was a busy sight in the halls of Johnny's Entertainment, Japan's and maybe even the world's biggest Entertainment&Fashion magazine.
The main hall was bright and spacious. Again like in movies, there was a huge fountain in the middle with a big sign placed in the middle, welcoming people in almost every language there was.
Light illuminated trough the huge see-trough ceiling giving the whole hall a bright and open feeling. On sunny days, the light mixed with the water drops, giving the whole hall more or less a sparkling feeling. As if the person who designed it tried to create a heaven-like atmosphere. And maybe he had.
In the back was a reception where 3 friendly looking secretaries tried to make everyone feel at easy and help them to find their way in the big building, located in the center of Tokyo. It was welcoming, almost.
Though the reality was it was only welcoming for those who were well respected in the fashion world, at least enough respected to set one foot within the building without getting kicked out by one of the blokes that guarded the doors. The magazine had a reputation to maintain of course.
Due this fact, the people who had the privilege to walk around in the halls almost always looked pretty and maybe glamorous wasn't the right word to describe it, but it was at least aways out of the ordinary.
Outsiders always commented on how everyone that worked there seemed to be blessed with good looks and fortune. Whether they had worked hard for it, was always forgotten. To them, people at JE were blessed.
Maybe that's why the building was nicknamed 'Heaven on Earth.' It was quite shallow really. Shallow and over the top. It was exactly what the fashion world was about.
The 21-year old young journalist Yoshiro Hikari looked around in the huge main hall. A little disturbed, yet fascinated by the atmosphere she entered up, she frowned a little and looked at her watch.
"Don't frown dear, it'll fasten the process to wrinkles. Wrinkles make you look old and ugly, and we don't want people like that here."
She turned around and eyed a man, 5 years older than she was, close enough to be her brother if only not for the fact that they were no blood relatives. He looked at her with a genuine smile on his face, and something made her think that if people could shine because they were proud, Koyama Keiichiro had probably enlightened the whole hall.
"You are late Kei-nii. I've been standing here for over 15 minutes, getting weird looks from by passers," she fake pouted, "are they always so nice to newcomers here?"
"Unlike newbies like you, I have work to do," he retorted, pretending to be slightly offended. "And yes, newcomers are always welcomed like that. Get used to it dear, it will go on like that for a bit longer."
At that moment a smaller male passed them. He had dyed blond, shortt hair, a round face and his brown eyes sparkled mischievously. "Good morning Kei-chan~" He sang, and the girl in their presence couldn't help but notice his voice was slightly higher than that one most males of his age. There was no other word to describe him but 'cute'.
"Is he..."
"As straight as the rainbow dear..."
"Ah, that's why he seems to like you," she grinned and the older male softly whacked her head. "Not all gay people like each other!"
"People in general like you Kei," she muttered and again the stupid grin was back in his face. This man was so easy to keep content.
"Do you want the full tour in which I will tell you everything about every one and every place, or the quick one where I will just show you your office?" The male's eyes sparkled a bit mischievously. He knew this girl her whole life and was pretty much aware of the fact that she was just as much a know-it-all as he was. The answer wasn't that hard to guess.
The girl however didn't answer right away. She picked up the leather bag she had with her and muttered a quick, "you better make it longer than a half an hour. I want to know everything."
--
As the two explored the halls, it was usually the oldest one who pointed out everything and the younger one who eagerly sucked up all the information her brother provided. They giggled about people they both knew, and gossiped like two mothers in front of the school gate. Both almost forgot... This was work.
In one of the halls they heard some quarreling and curious as they both were they popped their heads from behind the walls to reveal the arguing couple themselves. Hikari gasped as soon as she saw the two males, with both of them an for her unknown companion. The taller one was Akanishi Jin. Dressed in baggy jeans, and a loose vest around his shoulders, revealing the low white tank top he wore underneath it. He was gorgeous, even in his casual clothing. The other one was Kamenashi Kazuya, dressed a little more extravagant, fashionable damaged jeans and a purple jacket that nearly seemed to fleet on his rank shoulders. He wore huge shades, but even so it wasn't hard to see the huge frown that was placed on his usual so delicate face. Both males were top-models in the fashion world and every month the both of them battled for cover pages of the big magazines.
"Who are those other people?" The girl whispered and her brother kindly pointed them out for her, "The stud with the big chest. That's Yamashita Tomohisa-kun. The smaller one with the kiss-able lips, that's Ueda Tatsuya-kun. They are the managers for Jin-kun and Kame-chan."
Slightly amused by the way the older male had addressed both males (he could have used either 'the one on the left' or 'the taller one' to point out the men) she nodded.
"You."
Akanishi pinned his finger in the smaller chest of the younger man. "What are you doing here?"
The other one merely quirked an eyebrow at the finger that was still touching his frame and looked up muttering some incoherent answer towards the taller male. Something along the way, "is it a problem that I'm here? Because that would only prove you, in fact, do see me as an threat for your already dropping popularity, Akanishi-san."
The other one was startled for a bit. Even though he was usually the one who started these kind of conversations, he was slightly taken aback by the way the younger male always retorted his questions. After a second or 10 he seemed to have caught his tongue again, which he clacked in an annoyed way. "Don't think too high of yourself Kazuya."
With those words he barged off, and the smaller male followed his path the opposite way.
"This happens every time," Yamashita sighed in defeat and Ueda nodded in response.
"Why are we even still doing this job?"
"Because it pays," Ueda answered slightly amused. "Besides, it's fun to watch both of them fail in their ultimate quest to over-do each other. If they would only accept the fact that they are at the same level as each other."
The broad male shook his head, "never gonna happen."
The smaller one nodded again, and questioned out loud, "when is the last time they got laid? Maybe it would release a bit of the tension."
Yamashita frowned, made some calculations with his fingers and muttered something to himself. "Two weeks."
"Good. After the shoot. Usual place. You buy condoms, I buy wine."
"You think it's gonna work?"
"I hope so. And if it doesn't release the tension, at least they'll be so flushed that they won't speak with each other for over a week. Either way, we'll be the ones with a little bit rest."
The younger male nodded, and followed the path that Akanishi had chosen, while the smaller male skipped after Kamenashi with a very content smile.
Hikari looked at her companion who stared back. All of a sudden he turned away from the scene and started walking in the opposite direction, his hands in the air as he exclaimed, "I KNOW NOTHING!"
--
After that the both of them didn't collide into any situations like that, but it didn't mean the rest of the tour was even near boring. They passed Ohno Satoshi, one of the most respected fashion photographers, and his assistant Ninomiya, who were in a heavy conversation about how next shoot should look like.
"Oh look Kei-nii! That's Yasuda-san!"
She pointed towards a little guy that looked like he fell into a cotton candy machine and rolled trough drawings made by 2 year old afterwards. It was hard to believe, but that man was a young, very much respected upcoming fashion designer, part of a duo with Masuda Takakisa, and Hikari personally their colorful and playful designs a lot.
"Ahh, yes, Shota-kun. You'll be meeting him and Massu tomorrow probably. You'll be taking interviews then, right? They're on tomorrows list," her brother commented, and she smiled. As fun a walk trough to the building might was, she was excited for the real work that would start tomorrow.
The last place they arrived, was the office part. Here was the financial department, the writers section for the one shot-stories that were published every month, the editors section and the office of the of boss himself. But also her own working space, where she would make a fitting story from the interviews.
They passed the financial part and the girl saw how her friend hesitantly glanced inside.
"This is where he works right?" And without waiting for an answer she barged in the room, the older male trailing behind her with a somewhat pained look on his face.
Inside were two males. One tall, mid-twenties, slightly younger than her brother, with a slender figure, somewhat round face and piercing eyes that looked at her questioningly from behind his glasses. He had mid-short brown-ish hair, and as soon as he saw Keiichiro entering a cheeky grin lingered on his face. The other one was noticeable a bit younger. Dark wavy hair, and full lips. He hadn't even noticed the two newcomers and only after the older one had nudged him in the side he looked up, glanced at them, to return to his work soon after that.
"Hikari-chan, this are Kato Shigeaki and Inoo Kei, the two geniuses of the magazine. Together they run the biggest part of the financial department."
"So this is the infamous Shigea,-" before she could finish her sentence Koyama's hand had covered her mouth, and her words were muffled away into the palm of his hand.
"My little sister. Sort of. Not by blood but you get the idea. Started her today. Haha." Keiichiro muttered a little bit flushed and the two other males looked at him, and back to the girl. The younger one with an amused smile on his face, the other one with one a little bit more genuine.
"Well, welcome to the company then."
She nodded and bow, before she got dragged out of them room by her brother.
Hikari knew he had a long time crush on the young accountant. He spoke about him every time when he came to visit her at home. That's why she knew everything about the man, including his hobbies, likes and dislikes and even his freakin' shoe size. But apparently the man was as straight as the other was gay. So for now it was an one sided love. She felt a little bit sad for her older brother, who always waved it away with, "even metal can bend if you make it hot enough."
She was about to make a comment about it when a slender figure in the end of the hall caught her attention.
It was a man, or better said a boy of her own age. He was tall, with a slender posture and a seemingly laid back attitude. He leaned against the coffee machine with a slight frown and seemed to mutter something towards no one in particular, probably himself. He was dressed rather casual, and something told her that he wasn't a model or anything like it. It was as if the whole atmosphere around him didn't have any effect on him. It captivated her, and for a moment she was dazed. It was her brother-like figure who awoke her from her little staring as he muttered next to her ear, "like what you see?"
"Oh yes." She bluntly answered. "But wait... Is he gay too?"
"I don't know..." Keiichiro muttered. "I haven't seen him around much. He's new, just like you. From the writers department. He is kinda cute isn't he?"
"He is."
"Maybe he's gay after all. I mean, if I think he's cute..."
"The person you're in love with isn't gay, so your positive opinion in matters of looks doesn't apply to gay men only."
"True."
The boy looked in their direction, eyed the pair and looked away again, as if he heard them. But since there was no reaction they both assumed it was nothing.
The girl shrugged. "If he's gay, at least he's nice to look at."
The older male wailed with a slight hint of amusement in his voice, "you make it sound like us gay-men are only there to please a womans eye. That's not what we're here for honey."
She stifled a giggle and looked at the other and answered teasingly, "don't think you're a part of the category 'eye-candy' Kei-nii." Keiichiro pulled a face and the both of them broke into laughter.
It was the man who stopped laughing first, and when the girl looked up she understood why. In front of them was Takizawa Hideaki. Together with his personal adviser Tsubasa Imai, lawyer Yamashita Shoon, assistant Nishikido Ryo and some other people who always seemed to follow him around but whom neither Keiichiro nor Hikari knew by name.
His eyes sparkled mischievously as he eyed the young girl, "so you're the girl Koyama-kun recommended me? If you do your work as half as good as him I'm sure it'll be pleasant working with you."
With those words he turned to his phone again and marched of, leaving the two behind.
"That's a good thing, right?" She glanced up at her brother who merely nodded. Yeah. He supposed it was.
--
Yabu Kota, 22 years old and one-shot writer for Johnny's Entertainment wasn't pleased at all.
"Can you believe she thought I was gay?! And openly discussing it while I was only a few meters away?!" He sipped his coke, and looked at his two best friends for a little but of support. Haru looked at him over the edge of her glasses. The light of her laptop reflected in it, making it hard for the young male to see her eyes and see the emotion that was reflected in it. It looked like she wanted to say something, but shrugged and leaned back on her chair. "Yeah. A bit. Who cares anyway?"
The older male wanted to open his mouth but got disturbed by his best friend Hikaru who seemed to choke in his own laughter. He didn't know whether it was about the fact people thought he was gay, or the comment that the female had made about it but he didn't liked it either way.
Again, the only girl in the company shrugged, "She said you were good looking right? Look at it from the bright side instead of becoming mad about such a little trivial thing." She closed her laptop and carefully placed it in his case.
"Dude, was she hot?" Suddenly the younger male seemed interested.
The taller one frowned, "how the hell should I know? When someone thinks you're gay, it's not like the first thing you do is checking whether that person is hot or not."
The younger let his head hang in defeat and seemed to give himself a mental speech before turning towards his friend. Swiftly he swung his arm over the rank shoulder of the older one, pulled him closer and he looked around as if he was going to spill the most precious secret ever.
"Kou-kou. When someone checks you out, you check them out. If you're hot. And she's hot you can start something off. That's how it goes man."
The older boy grunted in annoyance, but looked up when he saw his female friend standing up and trowing a few coins on the table with a somewhat amused smile lingering on her lips.
"Haru, where'ya going?"
"Home. Unlike Hikaru here I have a job, and unlike you..." her eyes pried at him for a second, "I can't slack it."
With those words and a smile she grabbed her laptop and disappeared.
The boys looked at the towards the direction where she had disappeared, and it took a while before either of them spoke.
"Oi, Hikaru?"
"Hmm?"
"Do I really look gay?"
"Yes. Very."
"I hate you."
"Love you too honey."
